You are absolutely correct however if you ask anyone who is with a narcissist they will tell you the same thing

You get love bombed when they are cruel and it gives you hope . You develop a trauma bond with them that you cannot shake

They dangle carrots in front of you to keep you there

Any research will explain why we stay with narcissists – it’s not what they can give you – it’s what they tell you they will do for you and you believe them

Further to this they prey on kind loving passionate people and manipulate them
