The Confusing Freedom of Free Time
You have a whole day to yourself. What are you to do?
You pick up the remote control to see what shows are new.
You feel like you are wasting time; you switch off the TV set.
And pace around the house, your free time isn’t over yet.
You scroll through Social Media to check in on all your friends
All of them are busy so you search the latest trends.
The time is passing quickly, your walls are closing in.
Your free time is soon ending, you wish it would re-begin.
You could have done so many things in the hours that you had
But it’s so much easier to waste. The lost time has made you sad.
Why didn’t you write or go for a run? Regrets sink into your mind.
You seem to never have any free time, you’re always running behind.
You wash the dishes and take out the trash and while away the minutes
Until your free time goes into the past. You could have done so much more with it.
When you are given the gift of freedom, take it for all that you can.
You never know when it will happen again, you need to make a plan.
The next time you have a day of freedom, shut off everything.
Get out the door, and out of your mind, or write, dance or sing!
There is only so much time in our lives, that we can be really free.
Don’t waste or regret when you are given the gift, planning is the key.
Make a plan for your next free moments and when they finally arrive.
Do something that makes you feel freedom; take a hike or a long drive.
The world is full of choices, beyond your house and city,
Don’t just sit home alone, drinking wine, feeling self-pity.
Wasted time is not the freedom that you so deeply desire
But once you have a few spare hours, your soul begins to tire.
A nap might make you feel guilty though. Besides, what would your husband say?
He leaves you with a full day off and you snooze away the day?
Pick up a book, or have a nap, no one else should care.
You finally have some YOU time now, breathe that lovely freedom air!
