Are You There Medium? It’s Me, Marley

How many writers on Medium use aliases or pseudonyms for their pieces?

I am having difficulty deciding when or where to use my actual name, and where to use my “Writing Name”. When I first signed up with Medium, I never thought to use my alter ego, as it just didn’t seem to make sense at the time, but it seems as though I may have backed myself into a corner. I may need some advice from all of the gifted writers who share this platform.

HERE’S THE SCENARIO:

I started writing a book a few years ago, that I do not want to attach my real name to. The book that I am writing for a client, will also not have my real name on the cover. My reasoning is A) my actual name is my married name from my ex husband- no I am NOT going back to my maiden name. I just don’t feel like using his name as my public one. B) the books I am writing are based on actual events in my life and in my client’s life, so I don’t want to be “findable” if shit hits the fan. And C) I actually love my pseudonym, as it has a lot of meaning behind it.

I have actually set up a Wordpress page called Marley’s Haus and although it is still a major work in progress, it makes me smile. My next step will be to get a business licence set up, under the same name, so that I can show my income from writing, as…
